ESPGHAN conference 2025

Several members of the N4 research group were in attendance at the 57th European Society for Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (ESPGHAN) Annual Meeting in Helsinki, Finland, 14-17 May 2025.

On the first day of the conference, post doc Iratxe Urkia Susin (pictured) presented an abstract titled ‘Prevalence and Risk Factors for Anemia and Iron Deficiency in 18 Months Old Toddlers Within the Northpop Prospective Birth Cohort’ in the Best Abstracts session.

The following day Prof Magnus Domellöf chaired the Committee on Nutrition symposium on human milk and in this session PhD student Ludwig Kaloteka Svensson held an oral abstract presentation titled ‘Low-Dose Iron supplementation in Healthy Breastfed Infants Reduces Behavioral Problems at 3 Years: Results from a Randomized Placebo-Controlled Trial’ from the SIDBI study. Ludwig’s main supervisor and N4 member Anna Chmielewska was also in attendance.

Prof Magnus Domellöf chaired an additional two sessions; a rapid-fire e-poster session for nutrition titled ‘Breast milk and Infant feeding & malnutrition and feeding’ on the Thursday and an e-poster session titled ‘Neonatal and preterm nutrition & breast milk and infant feeding’ on the Friday.

Prof Domellöf also gave a presentation titled ‘Iron Deficiency and its impact on the developing brain’ at the well-attended Danone Nutricia symposium “Nourishing Futures: Recognizing and Overcoming Key Challenges in Toddler Health”.
