Preterm research workshop 24 October 2023

The N4 research group met an annual workshop focusing on research relating to preterm infants, at a conference venue in Umeå on Tuesday 24 October 2023.

The group consisted of pediatricians/neonatologists, PhD students, psychologists, a post doc, a speech and language therapist and research nurses.

Participants at the workshop were: Magnus Domellöf, Pontus Challis, Sara Olivecrona, Marie Lindvall, Gunilla Strinnholm, Isabel Neyra Marklund, Stina Segerstedt-Clode, Malin Bergman-Papworth, Jenny Norlander, Erik Domellöf and Itay Zamir.

Pontus presented the EXPRESS NEC project including draft preliminary data for NEC, nutrition and feeling intolerance, all part of his ongoing PhD project.
The other participating PhD student Sara presented the planned neurofilament light asphyxia study, as well as use of functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) in the GRANDIOSA trial.
Malin and Jenny gave an update from the INSPIRE study which now has a number of families participating in the pilot.
The morning continued with Magnus presenting results from the N-forte study as well as giving an overview of the recently started PEPS trial and the upcoming enteral insulin study FIT-PIV together with the four research nurses Marie, Gunilla, Isabel and Stina.
Post doc Itay presented news from the glucose research field and Erik introduced the workshop participants to the new edition of the neurodevelopmental assessment tool Bayley 4.

The afternoon was spent doing practical work on the different projects – planning, statistics, and writing.

“The workshop was as usual a great source of inspiration and bringing together a multidisciplinary group helps promote very engaging and fruitful discussions” said Magnus Domellöf who hosted the workshop.
This workshop on preterm research topics has been an annual tradition for 5 years and will be held again in 2024.
